Grand Canyon men's and women's golf coach Marc Chandonnet qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship after shooting a 1-under 70 Tuesday in the Arizona Sectional qualifier at The Pine Canyon Club in Flagstaff.
Chandonnet's 1-under on the 7,028-yard course tied for second with three other golfers, who also qualified.
Chandonnet is eligible to compete in the U.S. Mid-Amateur in Milwaukee in September.

Grand Canyon's Donald Zaruba III was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Zaruba III had a 3.3 in business, and competed in three NCAA Division II National Championship tournaments. He led GCU in stroke average and birdies this year.

Donald Zaruba III was chosen as the Pacific West Conference men's golf Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Zaruba, a senior from Longmont, Colo., had a 3.3 in business administration.
Zaruba had a team-best 73.06 stroke average this season, helping Grand Canyon to finish 11th at the NCAA Division II national championships. He shot a 67 in the second round of the Western Washington Invitational, and had 10 under-par rounds this season.
Zaruba finished tied for fourth at the PacWest Championships and was tied for sixth at the GCU Fall Invitational, following three straight under-par rounds.

Grand Canyon University men's golfer Ryan Sperry was named an honorable mention All-American by PING/Golf Coaches Association of America.
Sperry also received All-West Region honors.
A junior from Ukiah, Calif., Sperry won the West-Northwest Super Regional. He was second on the team in stroke average (73.44). Sperry shot a team-best low round of 66 at the GCU Fall Invitational. He was also second on the team in sub-par rounds during the 2007-08 season with nine.

Grand Canyon finished 11th at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships in Houston Saturday.
The Antelopes shot 31-over 1,151 on the 7,158-yard par 70 Memorial Park Golf Course, finishing a stroke behind 10th place Clayton State and a stroke ahead of Belmont Abbey College and Colorado-Colorado Springs, who tied for 12th.
GCU sophomore Terence Daniels shot a final-round 72 to finish at 8-over 288. Seniors Donald Zaruba III and Brett Beaty each finished at 9-over 289. Zaruba (pictured) shot 73 Saturday, and Beaty 74. Junior Ryan Sperry shot 73 to finish at 13-over 293. Sophomore Bentley Nakasawa shot 75 to finish a stroke back at 14-over 294.
