Dan Nichols was hired as Grand Canyon University's men's basketball head coach as announced by athletic director Keith Baker.
Nichols comes to Grand Canyon after serving the last seven years at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.
"When we started this process, it was our desire to find a coach who is part of the Arizona basketball community," Baker said. "Dan fills that desire as we strive to make GCU a great collegiate option for Arizona's high school and community college student-athletes."
Nichols went 127-89 with three Arizona Community College Athletic Conference championships from 2001-08 at South Mountain. His teams won two region titles, and his 2007-08 team was ranked No. 5 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II polls.

Scott Mossman resigned as Grand Canyon University men's basketball coach to put his family first and pursue other basketball opportunities. He is expected to remain on board until early June.
"I've decided to step down from my head coaching position at Grand Canyon for family reasons and to pursue other business opportunities in the sport of basketball," Mossman said. "It was a real hard decision. There's no question I'm going to miss coaching. I'm thankful for the university for giving me 10 of the best years of my life."
Grand Canyon athletic director Keith Baker supports Mossman's decision to step down on his own terms.
"I appreciate the devotion and desire that Scott has brought to our athletic program," Baker said. "Our return to NCAA Regional competition in 2007 was a great highlight on the competitive side, and one that is most recognizable publicly, but Scott impacted GCU much more deeply than that. I know that he cares for his players, and ultimately did his best for them daily. Our program is better off today for what he did here. I gladly support him in his desire to pursue other opportunities at this time."

Bogan country's best triple threat; Glenn 11th nationally
Grand Canyon University seniors Rudy Bogan (pictured) and Andray Glenn finished among the country's leaders in different statistical categories. Bogan, a 6-6 senior forward from Glendale/Chicago, connected on 53.6 percent of his three-point field goals. NCAA statistical reports require a player make at least 2.5 triples to be included among the nation's leaders. Bogan's 67 of 125 equated to 2.48 per game. Some reports rounded up Bogan's triple makes per game to 2.5. Either way, his 53.6 percentage ranked No. 1 among the nation's leaders. Glenn, a 6-foot-7 center from London, England, shot 87.5 percent from the free throw line to rank him tied for 11th among NCAA Division II leaders. Glenn hit 70 of 80 free throws this year. He had a string of 17 consecutive makes over a five-game span.

BELMONT, Calif. -- Rudy Bogan may have summed it up right.
"Speechless," Grand Canyon's most consistent scorer (pictured) said after the Antelopes lost to Notre Dame de Namur 81-69 Saturday night to cap the season.
No words to describe a team with potential that didn't live up to it.
Grand Canyon (12-15, 6-12 PacWest) ran into a second half stumbling block, and Notre Dame de Namur (10-14, 6-10) capitalized, sending the Antelopes home empty.
"We just came up short," said senior guard Mike Grothaus, who always tried to play with the type of fast-pace furry his coach preached all season but just couldn't elicit from his squad. "We just never could find the right track. We just couldn't close games out."
