SAN FRANCISCO -- Freshman Julio Zuniga (pictured, Mexico City, Mex./Trevor Browne/Arizona State) led Grand Canyon University runners for the first time this season, helping lead the 'Lopes to a 6th place finish at the Pacific West Conference Championships at Golden Gate Park Saturday.
Zuniga placed14th and finished the 8K course in 26:55.2, just .5 better than freshman teammate Chris Lewis (Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis).
Academy of Art won the event, taking home the school's first-ever PacWest title. GCU was just three points behind fifth-place Notre Dame de Namur. Individually, Academy of Art's Amos Maru took top honors in 25:17.0.

Grand Canyon University freshman Chris Lewis (pictured, Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis) was named to the Pacific West Conference Top 10 Honor Roll for races contested Oct. 9-10.
Lewis finished 18th among eligible runners from four-year schools and first among GCU entrees in the UCSD Triton Invitational Oct. 10. He posted a time of 35:09.1 on the 10K course.

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Grand Canyon University's men's cross country placed eighth, led by freshman Chris Lewis (Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis), at the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego Saturday.
Lewis placed 28th in the 10K race with a time of 35:09.1. He was followed by senior Miles Lindsay (pictured, Chula Vista, Calif./Barstow) who was 59th (37:11.7) and freshman Julio Zuniga (Mexico City, Mex./Trevor Browne) with a 70th place finish (38:09.9).

Four selected to PWC Honor Roll 
Grand Canyon University had four cross country runners selected to the PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll for their performance at the Oct. 3 Grand Canyon University Invitational. Sophomore Nick Cross (Apache Junction, Ariz./Apache Junction), freshman Chris Lewis (Peoria, Ariz./Raymond Kellis), senior Miles Lindsay (Chula Vista, Calif./Barstow) and freshman Julio Zuniga (Mexico City, Mex./Trevor Browne) were named to the list. Lewis (35:05.1), Zuniga (35:25.7) and Lindsay (36:23.4) all finished in the top 10 and were the top three Division II and four-year school runners in the race. Along with Cross (37:43.6), all four topped last season's best time (38:39.2) for a 10K run.

Grand Canyon had three runners in the Top 10 at the GCU Invitational at Thunderbird Paseo Park Saturday.
Mesa Community College won the team event and Dine College's Nicolas Kipruto (33:02.5) topped all runners in the 10K event.
It was GCU's first 10K run of the season and five runners topped the Lopes best time (38:39.2) from the 2008 season.
Freshman Chris Lewis (pictured, Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis) led the way with a sixth place finish (35:05.1). Frosh Julio Zuniga (pictured, Mexico City, Mexico/Trevor Browne) placed eighth (35:25.7) and senior Miles Lindsay (Chula Vista, Calif./Barstow) was 10th (36:23.4).
