ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Trailing by as much as 20 points in the second half, Grand Canyon got the deficit down to two, with 1:08 left, before losing to Dixie State 93-88 in a Pacific West Conference contest at Burns Arena Saturday.
GCU (12-7, 6-2) was down 56-40 at halftime. The 'Lopes tightened things with a 14-0 run, getting seven points from senior Stacy Haddow (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley), five from junior Samantha Murphy (pictured, Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) and the final two on a layup from Kia Gibson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash./Lakeside/N. Idaho).
The rally cut the score to 86-82 with 3:03 left. Two Murphy free throws at the 1:08 mark got the margin down to two.

Grand Canyon University's women's basketball team moved up one spot, to No. 8, in the NCAA Division II West Region poll.
The top eight teams from the region qualify for the NCAA tournament. The Pacific West Conference champion also has an automatic bid. GCU is currently the only PacWest team ranked in the Top 10, but is one and one-half games behind Hawai'i Pacific.
UC San Diego is at the top of the region poll.

GCU Inducts Three into Hall of Fame
As part of its annual Homecoming weekend, Grand Canyon University inducted former baseball star Tim Salmon, ex-men’s basketball coach Ben Lindsey and the 1996 NCAA Division II national champion men’s soccer team into the GCU Hall of Fame Friday.
Major League Baseball fans affectionately know Salmon (pictured with athletic director Keith Baker) as “King Fish.” A 14-year veteran of the Los Angeles Angels, he is considered one of the greatest players in the franchise’s history. The former right fielder and World Series champion also is recognized for hitting it out of the park for the families he supports through his many humanitarian projects, which earned him an honorary doctor of public service degree from GCU in 2006.
After three record-setting seasons at Brazell Stadium, Salmon made his major league debut on Aug. 21, 1992. He has received many honors for his efforts both on and off of the playing field. He was Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year (1992), American League Rookie of the Year (1995), and Major League Baseball Comeback Player of the Year (2002).

Grand Canyon University junior guards Katrina Graham (pictured, Mesa, Ariz./Desert Mountain/Mesa CC) and Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) were selected to the Pacific West Conference Top 10 Honor Roll for games contested Jan. 25-31.
Graham had a team-high 17 points and collected six rebounds in GCU's lone game, a 78-67 victory over Dixie State. She shot 70 percent (7-for-10) from the floor.
Murphy scored 14 points, dished out four assists in the win over DSC and shot 50 percent (5-for-10) from the floor.
The 'Lopes travel to Dixie State for a 5:30 p.m. contest Feb. 6.

Grand Canyon University junior guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) will be featured in a segment on the upcoming PacWest Magazine, The Television Show tonight on Hawai'i-based television station OC-16 (www.oc16.tv).
The show airs at 11 p.m. Phoenix time.
Murphy recently became the program's No. 2 all-time scorer (1,192) and is 89 points behind all-time leader Jennifer Cobb (1,281).
The Phoenix native is among the leaders in 11 of 13 individual categories in the PacWest, including first in scoring (19.1) and free-throw percentage (86.9), third in steals (2.9) and fourth in 3-point percentage (40.0) and 3-pointers made (34).
