Grand Canyon men's cross country team signed Paul Chagolla to run this fall.
Chagolla was the Desert Valley Region champion out of Peoria Sunrise Mountain High School.
"He is going to be a huge asset to the GCU men's cross country program," Antelopes coach Kim Sims said.
Grand Canyon opens the season Sept. 6 at the George Kyte Classic at Northern Arizona University.
M Basketball

Dan Nichols was hired as Grand Canyon University's men's basketball head coach as announced by athletic director Keith Baker.
Nichols comes to Grand Canyon after serving the last seven years at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.
"When we started this process, it was our desire to find a coach who is part of the Arizona basketball community," Baker said. "Dan fills that desire as we strive to make GCU a great collegiate option for Arizona's high school and community college student-athletes."
Nichols went 127-89 with three Arizona Community College Athletic Conference championships from 2001-08 at South Mountain. His teams won two region titles, and his 2007-08 team was ranked No. 5 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II polls.
Tennis

Paseo Racquet Center, Grand Canyon University's men's and women's tennis facility, was honored among the nation's top tennis venues.
Paseo was named by the Tennis Industry Association, the United States Tennis Association and Racquet Sports Industry magazine as one of the top 50 Tennis Welcome Centers in the country, according to The Glendale Star. Paseo was highlighted by TIA for its leadership in promoting tennis and offering programs that welcome new players into the sport.
To be chosen as a top 50 facility, a tennis venue must have excellent participation figures, support industry programs and community involvement.
M Golf

Grand Canyon's Donald Zaruba III was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Zaruba III had a 3.3 in business, and competed in three NCAA Division II National Championship tournaments. He led GCU in stroke average and birdies this year.
W Golf

Two Grand Canyon University women's golfers were named All-American scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Freshman Brittany Anderson (Marketing) and Jacqueline Sneddon (Marketing) were named to the NCAA Division II academic team. Student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average to be recognized for the award. They also must have competed in at least 50 percent of the school's regularly scheduled rounds of competition.
Both Anderson (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills HS) and Sneddon (Meigle, Scotland) figure to be two of GCU's top golfers this season.
