SAN FRANCISCO -- Grand Canyon's men's cross country team placed 17th in the NCAA West Regional at Speedway Meadows Golden Gate Saturday.
Chico State took top team honors. Marko Cheseto of Alaksa-Anchorage was the individual winner finishing the 10K course in 30:42.5.
Freshman Chris Lewis (Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis) led all GCU runners by placing 75th (34:34.9). Freshman Julio Zuniga (pictured, Mexico City, Mex./Trevor Browne) was 80th (34:47.1).
Sophomore Andrew Zappala (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket Regional) was 106th (36:27.9), just two places ahead of senior teammate Miles Lindsay (Chula Vista, Calif./Barstow).
Sophomore Nick Cross (Apache Junction, Ariz./Apache Junction) finished 111th (36:39.2). Sophomore William McClarty (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) placed 125th (39:08.7) and freshman Daniel Ontiveros (Phoenix, Ariz./Camelback) finished 131st (43:40.0).
