The Grand Canyon University women's basketball exhibition game against the University of Arizona on Sunday will tip off at 1 p.m. at McKale Center in Tucson.
The schedule on our website had listed the start time as 2 p.m. and has been changed to reflect the correct time. The game can be heard on KTUC AM 1400 in Tucson. Fans can also follow Live Stats on the U of A athletics web site at www.arizonawildcats.com.
Much like the GCU men's basketball team, the Arizona women's team is entering a new era. It began last evening as the Wildcats downed NCAA Division II Fort Lewis (Colo.), 75-60, in exhibition play at McKale Center. Arizona, led by second-year head coach Niya Butts, has five new players and redshirt sophomore Tasha Dickey joining just four players back from the 2008-09 campaign.
Fort Lewis, a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, outplayed the Cats for the majority of the first half and led by two points at halftime. A potent inside-outside game complemented by a 2-2-1 full-court press helped force a number of Arizona's 13 first-half turnovers.
GCU, under head coach Trent May (pictured), has won three straight Pacific West Conference championships.
The Antelopes have played two exhibitions against junior college team, including a victory Wednesday over Central Arizona. The regular season begins Nov. 16 at Western New Mexico. The home portion begins Nov. 21 against UC San Diego at Antelope Gymnasium.
