SEASIDE, Calif. -- Grand Canyon finished second and had the best second-round score at The Lady Otter Invitational hosted by CSU Monterey Bay at Bayonet Golf Club Tuesday.
GCU shot a 316 on a windy day where gusts were estimated to be as high as 25-30 mph. GCU had a two-day total of 636 and finished six shots behind tournament winner Cal Baptist (307-323 -- 630).
Grand Canyon's Georgina Dunn (pictured, Peterborough, England/King's School/New Mexico State) was the only player in the tournament to shoot in the 70s for both rounds. She finished 10-over-par (79-77 -- 156) and tied for third, just two shots off the individual title won by Cal Baptist's Adriana Niclotti (74-80 -- 154).
Two other Antelopes finished in the Top 10. Jennifer Lutz (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa/Mesa CC) and Jacqueline Sneddon (Meigle, Scotland/Madras College/Elmwood College) tied for eighth. Both were just five shots off first place each with a 159. Lutz shot her best round Tuesday with a 78. Sneddon shot a 78 on Monday.
Rio Milord (Delray Beach, Fla./Atlantic Community/Seminole CC) tied for 15th (82-80 -- 162). Brittany Anderson (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) finished tied for 25th (82-83 -- 165).
Playing unattached, freshman Alexandra Malmsjo (Stockholm, Sweden/Saltsjobaden) finished tied for 18th (79-84 -- 163).
There were 14 different teams in the event and 67 golfers. It marked the end of the fall portion of the women's golf schedule. The spring season, which culminates with region and national championships, begins in February.
