Men's Soccer Suffers First PacWest Loss Kyle Ciliento

The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team failed to win a Pacific West Conference game for the first time this season on Saturday, when it played to a 1-1 draw with Hawaii Pacific. Today, it did one worse when it lost its first PacWest game of the season, 2-1 to Hawaii-Hilo in Hilo, Hawaii.

The Antelopes dropped to 11-3-2, 8-1-1 in the PacWest. The Vulcans improved to 7-8, 6-3.

Freshman forward Kyle Ciliento (pictured, Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) scored the only goal of the game for GCU at 15:53 on a drop pass from junior midfielder/forward Pat Perkins (Bremerton, WA/Bremerton) in the middle of the penalty box.

Hawaii-Hilo got goals from Vincent Muscarella on a penalty kick at 24:30 and George Ichimaru unassisted at 36:24.

The 'Lopes actually had advantages in shots (22-14), shots on goal (9-6) and corner kicks (9-2) in the game.

Vulcans goalkeeper Dane Kaylor made eight saves, while GCU junior Ben Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia/Roseban K College) had three and the team one.

The 'Lopes play Dixie State on Friday at St. George, Utah.
