REDLANDS, Calif. -- Grand Canyon University's mens' swimming team finished second at the University of Redlands Invitational at Thompson Aquatic Center Saturday.
GCU scored 330.5 points. Host Redlands won with 451.5. Pomona-Pitzer (283) was third and Chapman (120) fourth.
GCU's 200 Freestyle Relay team of Charlie Woodruff (Phoenix, Ariz./Central), Tyler Bhirdo (Yuma, Ariz./Cibola), Johan Ivarsson (pictured, Sundsvall, Sweden/Sundsvall) and Artem Tretiakov (Donetsk, Ukraine/Donetsk National University) set a new pool record in winning the race in 1:27.72.
Along with the relay, GCU earned seven other first-place finishes. Ivarsson won the 100 Backstroke (53.90) and 200 Backstroke (1:57.62). Tretiakov had wins in the 50 Freestyle (21.59) and 100 Freestyle (47.97). Matt Muchna (Prescott, Ariz./Home School) won the 200 Breaststroke (2:27.46) and joined Ivarsson, Woodruff and Tretiakov on the victorious 200 Medley Relay team (1;40.09).
Richie Krzyzanowski (Scottsdale, Ariz./Pinnacle) won the 200 Butterfly (2:00.99).
