GCU Men's Soccer Fails to Win PacWest Match for First Time This Season Kyle Ciliento

The Grand Canyon University (GCU) men's soccer team played to a double overtime 1-1 draw with Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) yesterday in Kaneohe, Hawaii. It was the first time the Antelopes have been unable to win a Pacific West Conference game this season.

GCU, No. 5 in the West region in the current NSCAA Division II Rankings, now is 11-2-2 overall, 8-0-1 in the PacWest. HPU kept alive its hopes for a conference championship and is 9-2-2, 6-2-2.

The game was scoreless until just after halftime, when 'Lopes freshman forward Kyle Ciliento (pictured, Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) was taken down in the Sea Warriors' penalty area and connected on the ensuing penalty kick. Twenty minutes later, in the 66th minute, Max Anton scored on a cross from Chance Bukowski to tie the game.

The game was scoreless for the rest of regulation and both overtimes.

GCU had a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal in the game.

Matt Terry had nine saves for HPU, while junior goalkeeper Ben Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia/Roseban K College) had one save for GCU.
