Three Lopes in Top 10 at GCU Invitational Miles Lindsay

Grand Canyon had three runners in the Top 10 at the GCU Invitational at Thunderbird Paseo Park Saturday.

Mesa Community College won the team event and Dine College's Nicolas Kipruto (33:02.5) topped all runners in the 10K event.

It was GCU's first 10K run of the season and five runners topped the Lopes best time (38:39.2) from the 2008 season.

Freshman Chris Lewis (Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis) led the way with a sixth place finish (35:05.1). Frosh Julio Zuniga (Mexico City, Mexico/Trevor Browne) placed eighth (35:25.7) and senior Miles Lindsay (pictured, Chula Vista, Calif./Barstow) was 10th (36:23.4).

Sophomore Nick Cross (Apache Junction, Ariz./Apache Junction), who owned last year's best 10K time, topped that mark by over one minute (37:43.6) and placed 15th. Sophomore Andrew Zappala (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket Region) placed 17th (38:32.6).

Sophomore T.J. McClarty (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) and freshman Daniel Ontiveros (Phoenix, Ariz./Camelback) placed 26th and 27th, respectively. McClarty clocked in at 40:35.1 and Onitveros in 40:44.1.

Junior Luke Larm (Buckeye, Ariz./Buckeye) placed 30th (44:35.1).
