Grand Canyon women's tennis team signed a high school state champion and a junior college transfer as part of this year's recruiting class, announced by Antelopes third-year coach Greg Prudhomme.
GCU signed Pinnacle High School state champion Kaila Knopf, who partnered to win the 2009 Arizona Class 5A Division II doubles championship. Knopf played No. 2 singles behind the No. 1 singles state champion at the Scottsdale-based high school.
Knopf and Pinnacle won the team state championship as well.
Grand Canyon also signed Pima Community College transfer Ali Brackey. Brackey played Nos. 2 and 3 singles, advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association regional finals. She captured the regional doubles flight championship.
Brackey, an all-NJCAA Region I No. 2 doubles selection from Sierra Vista, Ariz., was a first team all-ACCAC singles pick and second team all-conference doubles choice.
Brackey and Pima qualified as a team for the NJCAA National Championships.
