Trevor Sanderlin, a right-handed pitcher who helped lead Cottonwood Mingus to the Class 4A-II state championship, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play baseball at Grand Canyon University.
Sanderlin is the second Arizona state champion to sign with the Lopes. Right-handed pitcher Brady Wager, from Globe, led his team to the Class 3A championship. Wager, who was drafted in the 27th round by the Tampa Bay Rays, and pitcher Cody Repenning from Gilbert signed during the early period.
Sanderlin was 8-1 for the Marauders with a 1.73 earned run average. He had 93 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched. The 6-2, 210-pounder had five complete games and one save. He also hit .322 with four home runs and 25 RBIs. Mingus has won back-to-back state titles.
"He's a great addition to our recruiting class and program," said GCU head coach Dave Stapleton. "Anytime you bring in a kid that was such a key component from a championship team, it's a big plus. It really gives us a boost to our rebuilding."
Along with Sanderlin, Wager and Repenning, Grand Canyon has added Flagstaff right-handed hurler Adam Serrano to the 2010 class.
