Brazell Stadium (Baseball)

Brazell Stadium is home to the GCU Antelopes baseball team.  It has an intimate feel and is much like a small town baseball stadium. The dugouts are covered and the stadium features a batter’s eye in center field.  The left field wall is over 30 feet high and resembles the Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston, MA.  The stadium holds 1,500 people and the dimensions are:
320'-Left Field Line
328'-Right Field Line
390'-Left Center Alley
380'-Right Center Alley

The Salmon Clubhouse

The Tim Salmon Baseball Clubhouse was built by prominent baseball alumnus, Tim Salmon.  Salmon enjoyed an illustrious Major League Baseball career starting when he was the 1993 American League Rookie of the Year for the California Angels.  He then went on to win the 2002 World Series in seven games against the San Francisco Giants.  Tim recently received an honorary doctorate from GCU in 2006, prior to his retirement from baseball at the end of that same season.

Antelope Gymnasium

The Antelope Gymnasium is home to the majority of the sports teams at Grand Canyon University.  The Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams play their home games in the gym.  In addition to basketball, Wrestling and Volleyball have their home matches in the gym as well.  The gym is equipped for 2,000 people to attend events that are held.

The Antelope Gymnasium is only ten years old, so it is a modern gym equipped with new wall mats and state of the art backboards.  Many athletics staff has their offices in the “old gym” right next to the new Antelope Gymnasium.  With the cozy feel of the gym, a packed house makes the ‘Lopes feel like they have a true home court advantage and in basketball, a “6th Man”.

Soccer Field

The GCU Soccer Field is home to the Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams, as well Lacrosse, which is being added in the Fall of 2007.  The soccer field has seen its share of big events, since that is where GCU won its 1996 Men’s NCAA Division II Soccer National Championship.  Many professional teams also practice on the field and recently, two Major League Soccer games were hosted on the field.  The complex can hold 1,000 people.

Lacrosse is going to be an exciting sport at Grand Canyon since it will be the only NCAA sanctioned Lacrosse program in Arizona.  The field just kicked off lacrosse by holding the Arizona High School All-Star Competition on May 4, 2007.    Look for Lacrosse to be an up and coming sport at GCU in the near future.

Stapleton-Pierson Field

The softball complex is called Stapleton-Pierson Field after GCU head baseball coach, Dave Stapleton, and current Florida Marlins Field Coordinator, John Pierson.  The field was built by those two men and opened for competition four years ago.  The stadium holds 500 people and has a beautiful view of GCU’s dormitory complex, Hegel Hall.
