Former Grand Canyon University goalkeeper Dusty Hudock and the Charleston Battery are moving on to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.
Hudock, an NAIA All-District VII selection who tied a GCU school record for shutouts in a season with nine in 1990, and the United Soccer League First Division's Battery will meet Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo Tuesday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m. EST in Charleston, S.C.
The Battery beat MLS' CD Chivas USA, 3-1, in the third round, Tuesday, June 30. Hudock was issued a yellow card in the match after bringing down Maykel Galindo in the penalty area.

Grand Canyon University women's golfers Brittany Anderson, Jennifer Lutz and Jacqueline Sneddon were each nam ed National Golf Coaches Association All-American scholars Wednesday.
Recipients must carry a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average, and have competed in at least 66 percent of the school's rounds during the season to be eligible at the NCAA Division II level.
Anderson, a corporate wellness & fitness major from Goodyear, Ariz., completed her sophomore season at GCU in 2009. Anderson (pictured) is a two-time recipient of the award.

Grand Canyon men's basketball team will open the 2009-10 season at the Disney West Coast Tip-Off Classic Friday October 30 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California.
GCU will open the tournament against Western Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30. The Antelopes will play San Francisco State on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2:30 p.m.
The Lopes meet Kentucky Wesleyan Sunday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m.

Grand Canyon University has hired Cory Cole as an assistant women's basketball coach.
Cole joins Trent May's staff from Oklahoma Christian University (NAIA), where he was an assistant coach for 13 seasons. He was a part of 10 straight NAIA tournament appearances and two Sooner Athletic Conference championships.
"I was looking for the right opportunity and I knew Trent's philosophy on and off the court," said Cole. "I thought it'd be an easy fit."

Grand Canyon University finished 174th in the Learfield Sports Director's Cup NCAA Division II standings.
The Director's Cup is an all-sports compilation based on athletic success of colleges throughout the nation. It is a representation of where a university's athletic program ranks as a whole nationwide. A university athletic program's finish in national postseason competition goes a long way in determining the Cup standings.
Grand Canyon had 85 points. Grand Valley State University in Michigan won its sixth straight championship with 1014.50 points.
